Out of the Stratosphere

IN AN INSTANT all thought compresses, shattering and shaking through convulsions stuck in the gullet; outside winds blow the hot day away into night, unfurling spirit’s grand imperative into words that paint pictures: of silent impressions, deep feeling & resolve, lifting tired eyes away from apes, toward angels, while inhaling deeply all the wisdom this wonderful fresh air imparts.

Stars are obscured in the black night sky, hazened by fires burning throughout the west and the planet; meanwhile, cumulative acts of kindness & grace cushion my brow, into solid grounding, which moves buoyantly through the shimmering light of water on a stream, through a pool of concrete and crystalline blue, or perhaps with the words you are bathing in right now.

At day’s end all the experiences, lessons, niceties, laziness and pleasures must be given time – to settle into dreams -- and to weave the moral fibers of human expectation into the promise only tomorrow holds.  Incrementally wrenching all meaning out of folly, amid the world’s grand misbehaviors & vast wild events, it is humility’s ground that is to be gained.  Gained only by effort and action.

Awareness, guided to doing the next right thing, free of the tyranny of past folly, and rooted in kindness and persistence, serve to arbiter any outcomes  I would hope are mine, while patience and common sense, like hinges upon my thinking, awaken a new pragmatism and giddy enthusiasm for the continuing newness of life that has been my experience thus far.

Tiredness eventually places its brake upon this chariot of dreams and delusions; thought slows to its relaxed state and eyes grow heavy and soft.  Winding down I re-frame all the day’s vexations into gratitude, lifting my ideals once again out of the gutter and into the realm in which ideas regain their rightful reign regarding that which is noble and enduring in civilization.
